Charles Paul Sarnasi, ‘Charlie’ to all those who loved him, was born on April 14, 1927 in Morrisville, PA to Elizabeth and Michael Sarnasi. He spent his early years in Palisades, NJ, graduating from Fort Lee High School in 1945. During these years, he spent weekends working at and helping his grandparents on their farm in Pennsylvania.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1945 where he was an aircrewman trained in aviation gunnery. After his Navy service, Charlie worked at Standard Jewelry Company, the family jewelry manufacturing business in New York City, while also attending Fairleigh Dickinson College. He was subsequently employed for five years by Lionel Trains in Union, NJ as a methods engineer. On weekends, he worked as a lifeguard at Beacon Baths Beach in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ.
He was also a licensed pilot, receiving both instruction and his license at the Wall Airport. Throughout his life, he owned many boats which allowed him to enjoy his most favorite pastime — fishing with his son and close family.
He met his wife, Patricia (Patty) Fox on the beach in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ. After a year of courtship, they married in 1955 and shortly thereafter, they moved to Brielle, NJ, where they raised their two children, Charles Jr. (Chuck) and Susan Lee. They subsequently moved to their beach house in Point Pleasant which, nestled against the dunes, was on the very spot at which they had first met. Karma. Patty and Charlie traveled extensively and also enjoyed time in Florida each winter where Charlie loved to fish off the coast of Islamorada.
In 1956, Charlie started his own successful excavating business, Charles Paul Excavating, which remains still in operation today on Bay Avenue in Point Pleasant and is managed by his son Chuck.
He served on the Brielle Board of Education for seven years and held memberships in the Manasquan River Yacht Club and the Manasquan River Golf Club.
He lived a long, productive, and happy life, focused on his wife and family, his work, and his lovely home. He was active well into his 90s, and scores of people were proud and privileged to call him their friend.
Charlie is survived by his wife Patty, son Chuck, daughter Susan, daughter-in-law Sheila, granddaughter Madison and grandson Chip. He passed away peacefully at his home on the beach, surrounded by family and loved ones, on September 29, 2023.
