We’ve reached the special time of year where we all have calendars filled with holiday events, festive music playing, cozy treats baking and glittering lights shining. Celebrate the holiday season at area events — there are so many to choose from! Here’s a guide to some area favorite festive events at the end of this year.
THE HISTORIC VILLAGE AT ALLAIRE
THE HOLIDAY EVENING STROLL
The Historic Village at Allaire is hosting Holiday Evening Strolls on Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 23, 6 to 9:30 p.m. Visitors can enjoy this rare, self-guided tour through Allaire with candles, lights and luminaries glowing throughout the Village. Enjoy the holiday peace during your stroll. The general store will be open for gift shopping and the bakery will be open for sweet treats, as well as historical buildings. Tickets are $10 each for 3 years and older, 2 and under visitors are free. Tickets are non-refundable and available online at allairevillage.org.
CANDLELIT LANTERN TOURS
Spend an evening strolling through the Historic Village at Allaire by candlelit lantern and enjoy the rich history of Christmas in the 1800s. Visit the bakery, blacksmith’s shop, Allaire residence and more as your guided tour brings alive the spirit of Christmas past with traditions and holiday decorations to delight everyone. Learn about holiday traditions, experience music, history and theater. Visitors can select from a regular tour or a VIP tour. Advance ticket purchase is required and available online at allairevillage.org.
A regular Village Christmas Lantern Tour is a 60-minute experiential evening lantern tour with a period dressed interpreter that leads visitors to six of our historic buildings; warm by the fire pit outside the carriage house; enjoy the ambiance of a candlelit village. The cost is $30 per person. A VIP Village Christmas Lantern Tour is a 90-minute tour that includes Christmas music at the Historic Chapel (harp, guitar); a special concluding program at the carpenter shop; a 2023 Allaire Christmas gift bag. The cost is $45 per person. Each tour is an outdoor walking tour, with various stops and walk-throughs of historic buildings along the way. This event is not recommended for young children under 10.
Tours begin at 4:30pm and depart from the Allaire Community Hall (at the head of the parking lot) every 15 to 20 minutes until 8:30pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance according to tour type and time block. Visit allairevillage.org for more details and to purchase tickets.
HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR
AND CHRISTMAS TRAIN DISPLAY
Presented by Garden State Central Model Railroad Club, the InfoAge event continues on Dec. 9 & 10 and 16 & 17 this year, 12 to 5 p.m. at InfoAge Science Center, 2201 Marconi Road, Wall Township. Admission for adults is $12, children $8. Bring a new, unwrapped toy for Toys For Tots and receive 50% off admission. The family-oriented, multi-room display features a variety of model railroad layouts presented in a festive atmosphere. The trains range from the smallest scales up to large garden-railroad varieties and include a number of hands-on layouts where visitors can run the models themselves. In addition to the many trains, the event features visits with Santa and a snackbar. Admission includes access to the entire Info InfoAge Science and History Museums campus which includes exhibits of military vehicles, shipwreck artifacts, vintage radios, historic computers and the large permanent HO scale model railroad. JENKINSON’S BOARDWALK
Come to the Sea of Lights at Jenkinson’s Aquarium this Dec. 9, 16, 22, 23, 27 and 28 from 4 to 8p.m. each night. There will be various forms of entertainment each night 5 to 8p.m. as well. Santa will be back on Dec. 9, 16, 22 & 23 for photos from 5 to 8p.m. and then he’ll be heading into the Aquarium after Christmas to dive in the tanks on Dec. 27 & 28 at 5p.m. & 6:30p.m. This year’s new holiday entertainment includes Princess Sweets & Treats with the Winter Princess & Queen, Elf Storytime, Snow-ville Shows with the green gift stealer, Eyes of the Wild Animal Shows and holiday character meet-and-greets including the happy reindeer and dancing snowman from your favorite “chilly” movie. Sea of Lights takes place inside the Jenkinson’s Pavilion as well as the Jenkinson’s Aquarium. Much of this event is free to the public, aquarium admission is required if you go inside the aquarium. HOLIDAY BALL AT HEADLINER
This year’s third annual charity ball will be held on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2 to 8 p.m., and will feature two stages of music, raffle baskets, a photo booth and a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The event will benefit the Jersey Shore Dream Center. Take a shopping break to come listen to Cranston Dean, Bobby Syvarth, Tommy/Patty/The Acousticrats, The Hashtags, The Get Down Committee, Katie Mitchell Band, The Grand Vinyl Band, The Wallnutz, E Boro Bandits and so much more! atlantic community FARM
Wall Township’s Atlantic Community Farm invites you to enjoy an “old fashioned Christmas” on the farm with a walk-through light show. Many attractions await you including indoor and outdoor petting zoos, photos with Santa, holiday movies, a model train house and an overall picturesque holiday feel. Wagon rides are also available for purchase and tour the farm’s two tunnels of light, Christmas village and pass by all the animals that reside in the outside paddocks. PNC BANK ARTS CENTER MAGIC OF LIGHTS
The Magic of Lights is brightening the holiday season now through Dec. 30 at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel. The expansive lights continue to sparkle and shine as they have in previous years, but additional events being held in the Toyota Holiday Village are sure to add to everyone’s enjoyment — Stop by Santa Workshop and write a letter to Santa; roast s’mores, skate on the outdoor skating rink and visit with Santa himself.
