Mary J. Von Tish of Brielle passed from this earth on December 21, 2023, at the young and energetic age of 95 1/2 years old. Mary was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the youngest child of Agnes and Nelson Jones. Her life had many cornerstones that were defined by family, faith, and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband and love of her life, William Von Tish; they shared over 50 years together after meeting at First Presbyterian Church in West Orange, NJ. Mary loved her siblings, sister Jean and brother Nelson. Mary and Bill had three sons, David, Drew, and Douglas, who all remember her as a person of great energy, dedicated to her churches and communities, a holder of deep friendships, and having a heart full of love and hope.
Three daughters-in-law came into Mary’s life, whom she bonded with and loved, Denise, Chris, and Doris. Mary adored her grandchildren Dale, Kelsey, Lindsay and Phillip. She was blessed with loving nieces and nephews; Patricia, Dolores, Tim, Nelson, Kim, Kent, Karen and Kris, as well as a world filled with great friends. Mary especially cherished her near life-long friendships with Betty Thompson and Ellie Braun. She was also especially close with her neighbors in Brielle; they treated her as family.
Mary and Bill worshiped for many years at Kitchell Memorial Church in East Hanover, NJ, where they raised their boys. After retirement to their beloved Jersey Shore, they joined First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan.
Burial arrangements are private with family. A memorial service for Mary will be held in the spring, with details to be announced.
