NOT GIVING UP HOPE. JESSICA GOLER TELLS ME THESE PAST EIGHT YEARS HAVE BEEN A BLESSING. LITTLE LUCAS WAS JUST TWO YEARS OLD WHEN HE HAD A LAST MINUTE, LIFE SAVING LIVER TRANSPLANT HERE AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL, AND. HE HAD BEEN THRIVING UNTIL RECENTLY WHEN, SHE SAYS THEY STARTED TO NOTICE HIS LIVER IS FAILING. WHEN THE LIVER STARTS TO FAIL, IT’S IT BECOMES A RUNAWAY TRAIN. YOU REALLY DON’T KNOW WHEN THE TRAIN IS GOING TO LEAVE THE TRACKS. FOR THE GAWLER FAMILY, THE UNCERTAINTY IS TOUGH. ALTHOUGH TEN YEAR OLD LUCAS IS STILL ACTIVE, THEY KNOW HE IS IN NEED AGAIN AND HE IS LOSING A LOT OF MUSCLE MASS. HE HAD WENT FROM A SIZE 1012, NOW DOWN TO A68 AND PANT SIZE, AND JUST THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS. SO THAT TRAIN IS MOVING FAST DOWN THE TRACKS. JESSICA GAWLER SAYS WHEN LUCAS RECEIVED HIS FIRST LIVER AT TWO, HE WAS IN HIS FINAL DAYS AND THEY’RE DETERMINED NOT TO BE THERE AGAIN THIS WEEKEND. SHE SAYS THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD THEIR DONOR, JESSICA RECEIVED A CALL THAT SOMEONE WANTED TO DONATE THEIR LOVED ONE’S LIVER DIRECTLY TO LUCAS. IT WASN’T A MATCH FOR HIM, BUT SHE SAYS IT REJUVENATED THEM AND IT WAS JUST SO BEAUTIFUL, COMPLETELY UNEXPECTED, BUT SUCH A GIFT TO KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE STILL THINKING ABOUT LUCAS AND THAT THEY WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. JESSICA SAYS. WHILE LUCAS DIDN’T RECEIVE THE LIVER, SOMEONE DID, AND THAT IS PART OF THEIR MISSION TO ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO REGISTER, TO DONATE, TO SAVE ANY LIFE. AND THEY HOPE THAT MEANS LUCAS AGAIN, TOO. IF WE FOUND A LIVER THAT WAS A MATCH FOR LUCAS, THIS IS THE IDEAL TIME BECAUSE HE’S AT HIS STRONGEST. IF WE WAIT TOO LONG, IF IT TAKES YEARS TO GET HIM A LIVER OR EVEN MONTHS TO GET HIM A LIVER, WE DON’T KNOW WHAT STATE OF HEALTH HE’LL BE IN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP SAVE LUCAS, WE HAVE A LINK TO REGISTER AT WTAE DOT COM. WE ALSO HAVE LINKS THERE TO HIS MOM’S SOCIAL MEDIA, SO YOU CAN FOLLOW LUCAS’S PROGRESS OUTSID
